Birds of King's Park, Chumphon, Thailand

From 14 - 19 Oct MNS members made a special trip to Chumphon, Thailand to watch raptors flying pass two hills namely Radar and Pencil Hills. The path taken by the Raptors accord bird watchers an 'armchair' view of the big birds-of-prey at close range. Something which is difficult to experience as Raptors generally fly very high-up in the sky. We were not disappointed as our members managed to not only see but also photographed some of them at close range.

In addition to the main one described above our group made a side trip to the King of Thailand Park or Project to check-out the bird species which are reported to be quite varied there. We were not disappointed here either and here are some photos of the bird we sighted and photographed.

Flowers of Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Mountainous regions presents a different variety of flowers vis-a-vis the lowlands. The highest point in Cameron Highlands is Gunung Brinchang. The peak stands at 6,666 ft or 2,031 meters above sea level. The many hills and valleys surrounding this favorite holiday and nature destination are home to many flowers.

During my recent day trip I managed to record just a small fraction of these colorful flowers. Will continue to update with each trip in the future.

The Waders are back!

The season of the waders have started. Waders or shore birds are long legged and web-footed sea birds. The yearly migration from the winter in the northern hemisphere to the warmer south takes place almost like clock-work every year starting from late Sept to Dec. The birds would then stay till around April/May the following year before returning to their homelands to breed . 

The yearly cycle of migration keeps birders busy trying to document as many specie as possible. Listed below are some of the early arrivals. Many more will be arriving at wetlands, mudflaps and mangrove forests  in various parts of the country over the next few months.

Flowers of Malaysia - Lowland species

When out in nature I have made it a practice to capture all subjects or objects which pleases my eyes. Flowers is one such category. This category is the least featured on my blog. Recently whilst browsing some old photo folders I came across photos I had taken some time back but have stayed 'locked' in the folders. 

I decided then that I will share some of them here. So here goes......
