The Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela) 56 - 74 cm

Oftentimes we see eagles surfing the thermal high up in the sky. We do not get to see them hunting for their meals. Hence it was most rewarding when taking a break from photographing a small bird wave when we saw a Crested Serpent Eagle flew out of the forest edge with what we thought to be a large snake. Snakes of all kind is the favourite food of this eagle, hence it's namesake has a serpent in it.

As it turned out it was actually a very large frog which was dangling from it's talons as it flew. It stayed long enough to be photographed before making a dash for deeper forest to enjoy it's catch.

Have a nice weekend! Cheers!
